Optimist Club organizes free scholastic chess tournamentThe Optimist Club of Peachtree City will host a free scholastic Chess Tournament Jan. 15 at Christ Our Shepherd Lutheran Church in Peachtree City. The tournament is open to boys and girls grades Kindergarten through grade 12. Trophies will be given for: Best High School Player (grades 9 thru 12). Best Middle School Player (grades 6 thru 8). Best Elementary School Player (K thru 5). Best Female Player. This is a Non USCF rated tournament. This will be a six-round tournament with no elimination. No prior tournament experience is needed, but knowledge of the basic rules and an interest in chess is required. Bring chess boards and pieces if you have them. Home schoolers are welcome. Small children require adult supervision. Registration is from 9 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. The first round is set to begin at 9:45 a.m. The tournament should be completed by 3 p.m. Please bring a sack lunch.
