Investigation continues into N. Fayette house fireBy LEE WILLIAMS
A north Fayette County woman was injured in an intentionally set house fire that ripped through her Oak Hill Drive home about 11:45 p.m. Tuesday. A Fayette County sheriffs deputy was the first to arrive at 405 Oak Hill Drive, located 3/4 of a mile from the Clayton County line, to help. Clayton County EMTs also joined in to help the victim who sustained unspecified injuries after the fire broke out. Some type of an accelerant, possibly gasoline, was used to ignite the home, authorities said. A Clayton County ambulance was returning to Clayton County after transporting a patient to Piedmont Fayette Hospital, Fayette County Department of Fire and Emergency Services spokesman Capt. Pete Nelms said. They were at the intersection at Ga. Highway 85 and Oak Hill Drive. They saw the flames and went down there and assisted the deputy with the victim. Four minutes after receiving a call for help at 11:48 p.m., firefighters arrived to extinguish the blaze, Nelms added. Nelms said the woman whom he would not identify was the only occupant in the home. He also declined to comment on the nature of her injuries. The Clayton County ambulance transported her to Piedmont Fayette Hospital, Nelms said. There is an investigation ongoing to determine the cause of the fire. The fire gutted the home owned by Teresa Maselli. We are looking at $50,000 to $100,000 in damage, including contents, Nelms said. The department has teamed up with the Fayette County Sheriffs Department and they are following up on several leads in the case. |
