St. Andrew’s group schedules morning of meditation Jan. 15

The Epiphany season will be celebrated with prayer, readings and reflection when The Daughters of The King of St. Andrew’s in-the-Pines Episcopal Church meet for the Epiphany Quiet Morning, Saturday, Jan. 15, from 9 a.m. until 12 p.m., with Holy Eucharist at noon.

“After the hustle and bustle of the holiday season, spend some quiet time with our Lord and get refocused for the coming year by joining the Ruth and Naomi Chapter of the Daughters of the King for a morning of quiet meditation and exploration of the teachings of Jesus,” a spokesperson said.

The morning will begin with fellowship in the Parish Hall and then move to the narthex for the reading of three gospel selections for the Epiphany season. Each selection will followed by a period of silence and prayerful reflection. After the period of silence, participants will gather to share insights and look at the selection from different points of view, including the literal (what the passage actually says), historical (what was going on at the time the passage was written), anagogical (the mystical interpretation that may reveal a hidden or deeper meaning), and the moral (how does the teaching’s meaning and insights from our quiet meditation apply to us today).

The morning will conclude with the writing of a collect or prayer inspired by the participants’ reflections and discussions. The quiet morning is open to all.
