A bid to annex approximately 360 acres into northwest Peachtree City will likely be considered again by the City Council sometime soon with a renewed request from John Wieland Homes this week.
The City Council turned down the first annexation request in October on a 3-2 vote, which would have allowed city staff to start studying the concept. Council, however, left the door open for John Wieland Homes to reapply for annexation consideration.
Council approval is needed for city staff to delve into details with Wieland officials on the project, which would connect with an additional 88-acre parcel that is currently inside the city limits.
The proposal likely wont change much from the original, but it will include a density figure as requested by Councilman Steve Rapson, said Dan Fields, vice president of John Wieland Homes.
The schematic plan will also include a road leading to the northern boundary of the property so McDuff Parkway can be extended, but whether it connects to Ga. Highway 74 will depend on the owner of the parcel to the north, Fields said.
A connection to Hwy. 74 would allow them to bypass the only way out of the area currently: through the often-clogged Ga. Highway 54 West corridor. And thats one of the main reasons this annexation plan is drawing support from residents in the community instead of anti-developer backlash.
Wieland is giving the project a new name, at least on a temporary basis, Fields said: Connector Village, in deference to the transportation function of the proposal.
