NBA star Webber buys Barn, will call Tyrone homeBy JOHN THOMPSON
Another celebrity may soon be spotted on the highways and byways of Fayette County. Tyrone Town manager Barry Amos confirmed this week that NBA star Chris Webber will soon be calling Tyrone home. Amos said Webber bought Chip Youngs 140-acre estate, which includes the Barn, a structure that has hosted numerous political functions during the past few years. Young is well known in the county, most notably for his toys. In 2003, he had a portion of the original monorail that ran from Disney Worlds hotels to the land of the mouse delivered to his home. I go to Disney World about three or four times a year, and I just love it. I saw the monorail was up for auction on Disneys Web site, he said in 2003. The portion of the monorail that Young bought has nearly 1 million miles on it and is still operable. You could hook it up to 600 volts of DC current and 2,000 amps and it ould run, he said. Youngs portion of the monorail weighs 30,000 pounds and is 40 feet long. The Disney fan paid $20,000 for his little slice of the Magic Kingdom and isnt quite sure what he will do with the futuristic transportation mode. Im going to build a platform for it, and I would like to also display it in some of the parades, he said. Published reports indicate Webber purchased the home for $2.8 million. The 140-acre estate includes a 9,500-square-foot ranch home. Ive got a goddaughter here and numerous family members and friends, Webber told the Sacramento Bee. |
