Declaration signing reenacted in FvilleBy CAROLYN CARY The Marquis de Lafayette Chapter, Georgia Society, Sons of the American Revolution conducted its third Let Freedom Ring ceremony Sunday. The Fayette County Courthouse Square saw a number of American Revolution soldiers in uniform, as well as an appearance by Thomas Jefferson, a.k.a. Jim Robinson. The chapter SAR color guard posted the United States flag as well as the Sons of American Revolution flag. The Rev. Jeff Lowe led the invocation. Lowe is a member of the group. The names of the 13 colonies were read aloud, in the order in which they appear on the Declaration of Independence, and a hand-bell was rung by 13 participants. A tableaux of Thomas Jefferson writing and then signing the Declaration took place on the stone porch at the southern end of the old courthouse building in the center of Fayetteville. Portions of the document were read aloud. Vice president John Sloan gave the opening and closing remarks. The chapter meets each second Tuesday at the Heritage Bank on North Jeff Davis Drive, Fayetteville. The meeting begins at 7 p.m. and is open to the public.
