Extra lane to help northbound traffic at Redwine, Ramah roads

Help is on the way for traffic that backs up on Redwine Road just south of its intersection with Ramah Road.

The City of Fayetteville is about to undertake a project that will add a 400-foot right turn lane onto Ramah Road for vehicles heading north on Redwine. The extra lane will allow cars to turn right onto Ramah Road without stopping, said City Engineer Don Easterbrook.

“It will help make it easer to get through that intersection,” Easterbrook said.

Ramah Road provides access to Ga. Highway 85 south at a traffic light.

Residents in the area say the intersection of Redwine and Ramah roads gets bogged down with traffic in the morning, particularly during the school year.

Construction on the project is set to begin later this month, but progress doesn’t come without a price. It will require part of Ramah Road to be closed for two weeks, but the specific dates have not been selected yet, Easterbrook said.

When those dates are finalized, the public will be notified and detour routes will be identified, Easterbrook said. It’s like that Grady Avenue and Price Road will be used for the detours, he added.

The month-long project also involves construction that will separate the lanes of traffic further and replace some old pavement, Easterbrook said.
