Give him the great outdoors for Father’s Day

Do you have the best dad in the world? How do you express that? Ties, belts, dinner?

Well, this year, show him how much you care by giving him the great outdoors instead. The Georgia Department of Natural Resources’ Wildlife Resources Division encourages you to give dad a gift that will help him enjoy the beautiful natural resources that Georgia has to offer.

“Instead of offering something that may end up in the back of the closet, offer him something that will make a lifelong memory,” said WRD Director Noel Holcomb. “By doing a little research on the Internet, you might find that something you thought was too expensive, like a guided fishing trip, is actually quite reasonable. Even better, get two families to send their dads on a guided ‘buddy trip;’ wouldn’t that make your Dad feel special!”

Georgia has much to offer for families who want to get outside. There are over 70 wildlife management areas available on over one million acres of land. WMAs are available for hiking, fishing, hunting, camping and other recreational and educational opportunities. Georgia boasts over 4,000 miles of trout streams, 12,000 miles of warm water streams and 500,000 acres of impoundments for the anglers in your life. State parks, mountains, beaches and more also are available to everyone. WRD suggests some of the following outdoors-related gift items:

á Fishing & hunting maps and books.

á Fishing rod, reel and lures.

á Guide to hiking trails in Georgia.

á Field guides for birds and animals.

á Binoculars.

á State park pass.

á Life jackets.

á Tree stand.

á Tackle box.

á Tent.

á Birdfeeders and birdseed or nectar.

á How-to guides and/or videos.

á Archery equipment.

á Hiking shoes.

á Compass.

á Subscription to an outdoors magazine.

á Guided fishing or hunting trip.

These are only a few of the thousands of gifts that could be given to Dad this Father’s Day. For more information on Georgia’s outdoor recreational opportunities, visit www.georgiawildlife.com.
