Residents must petition for package salesIf Senoia residents want to see a liquor store in town, they need to sign a petition to allow the issue on the November ballot. The petition is currently on the citys Web site, www.senoia.com, and residents can print out the petition and bring it to City Hall. In order for the issue to be voted on in November, 35 percent of the registered voters in Senoia must sign the petition. The city joins a growing list of communities in the area who are deciding the liquor issue, whether by package sales or sales of liquor by the drink. Residents in Tyrone approved liquor by the drink last year, while voters in unincorporated Fayette County will decide the issue in July. Senoia residents will also vote on the liquor by the drink issue in November. In other city news, officials this week signed off on the design for new historic street signs. Downtown Development Authority member Gayle Downs asked the City Council for approval of 16 historic street signs for the city. The total cost would be $385, including installation. The DDA did not want the City Council to pay for the signs, but just approve the design. The City Council unanimously approved the new design. |
