Square Foot Ministry sets August event

Square Foot Ministry is sponsoring a three-day county-wide service event, entitled Impact ‘04. The dates are Aug. 4-6, with a kick off dinner to be held Tuesday night Aug. 3 at Brooks United Methodist Church.

The event’s goal is to complete as many small to medium size repair projects as possible during the three-day time period. Projects will range from small repairs, to building wheelchair ramps, installing or repairing roofing and yard clean up.

As an added feature there will be free concerts each night for participants, as well as a grand finale celebration on Friday night, Aug. 6, to be held at the Fayette County Amphitheater. The event has been designed primarily to enable youth to get involved in helping the less fortunate in the community, but all age groups and skill levels are needed and welcome. Several area churches have signed up to participate but more help is needed.

Square Foot Ministry is a non-profit, ecumenical Christian ministry organization based in Fayette County, founded “to give individuals a chance to express God’s love to the world,” a spokesperson said. The group’s motto is,“Becoming tools of God’s love one square foot at a time.”

“We do this by helping those who are in need of housing or housing repair and who can not afford it,” the spokesperson continued. “Recent projects have included the new Fayette Samaritans warehouse and offices, along with a several new houses and home repairs.”
