Obituaries

Robin Van Meter

Robin Van Meter, 89, Peachtree City, died May 22, 2004. He was born Oct. 22, 1914 in Parsons, Kan., the youngest of four children born to William James and Katherine Arnold Van Meter. He retired from the Department of Interior after a career as a research chemist in the field of air, water, pollution and mine safety. After retirement, he lived in Pinellas County, Fla., with his wife of 50 years, Anne Ostasheksi Van Meter. She died in 1994. He moved to Peachtree City in 2003. A future memorial service is planned for interment of the ashes at Oakwood Cemetery, Parsons, Kan. Survivors include sons, Keith W. Van Meter, new Orleans, La., and Quentin L. Van Meter, Peachtree City; grandchildren, Garth W. Van Meter, Washington D.C., Kathryn L. Van Meter, Seattle, Wash., Michael Van Meter, Alexandra Van Meter, and Ashely E. Van Meter, all of New Orleans, Timothy C. Van Meter, Atlanta, and Mary A. Van Meter and James B. Van Meter, both of Peachtree City. National Cremation Society, Lilburn, was in charge.

Jack Lanier Culpepper

Jack Lanier Culpepper Sr., 81, Fayetteville, died May 28, 2004. He was born Jan. 1, 1923 in Henry County. He was preceded in death by his parents, James Clifford and Martha Josephine Bowden Culpepper Sr., brothers, J. C. Culpepper Jr., Robert Bowden Culpepper, and Timon Wilson Culpepper, and sisters, Mildred Braddock, Ruth Porter, and Ruby Bankston. He was a graduate of Auburn University and served in the United States Navy in World War II. Services were at the Mowell Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Ken Helms officiating. Interment was at Westview Cemetery, Atlanta. Survivors include a son, Jack and Rosemary Culpepper Jr., Bonair., and James B. and Penny Culpepper, Warner Robins; a daughter, Dianne and Stuart MacGuire, Savannah; grandchildren, Channon and Henry Rowe, Brent and Carrie Culpepper, Ben and Anne Culpepper, Sam MacGuire, Isabel MacGuire, and Jack MacGuire; great-grandchildren, Abbigail Rowe, and Olivia Rowe; and sisters, Sadie Taylor, Merritt Island, Fla., and Carol Blackburn, Fayetteville. Carl J. Mowell & Son Funeral Home, Fayetteville, was in charge.

Helen D. Kennedy

Helen D. Kennedy, 87, Peachtree City, died June 2, 2004. She was born June 14, 1916 in Darlington, S. C. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Samuel Kennedy. She was a life-long member of College Park United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women. Private graveside services were at Westview Cemetery, Atlanta. Survivors include daughters, Ann and Robert Kennedy, Tyrone, and Jen and Larry Kirbow, Conyers; grandsons, James Alan Kennedy, John Derek Kirbow, and Jeffrey Brian Kirbow; and great-grandchildren, Joshua Seth Kirbow, Emily Kirbow and Elizabeth Kirbow. Metro Crematory, Peachtree City, was in charge.

Claudia M. Butt

Claudia M. Butt, 98, Union City, died June 5, 2004. She was born March 24, 1906 in Anniston, Ala. Services were at the Carl J. Mowell chapel with the Rev. Scott Harp officiating. Interment was at Greenwood Cemetery, Atlanta. Survivors include a son, John Butt, Clearwater, Fla.; a brother, John Daniel Maddox, Clarksville, Tenn; four grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Carl J. Mowell & Son Funeral Home, Fayetteville, was in charge.
