County players all over all region soccer team

Players from Fayette County, McIntosh and Starr’s Mill High Schools’ soccer teams are well-represented on the all region soccer team. McIntosh and Starr’s Mill had seven players named to the first or second teams, while Fayette County had three.

Fayette County’s Bryan Collier was named to the first team for forwards, while defender Nasar Onyeuku and midfielder Jay Page were named to the second team. Coach Ben Thacker was named Coach of the Year for taking his team to the state quarterfinals and having them finish as region runners-up.

McIntosh midfielder Patrick Murray was voted Player of the Year for Region 4-AAAAA and was also named to the first team. Murray’s fellow midfielders, Nader Jarun and Mark Pendergrass, were also named to the first team. Joining them on the first team were defenders Daniel Hershey and Patrick Houseman. Forward Michael Mateos and goalkeeper Glen Fox were named to the second team.

Starr’s Mill goalkeeper Matt Troup was named to the first team, along with defenders Justin Davis and Brian Parsons, midfielder Wes Kent and forward Trey Maughan. Starr’s Mill players named to the second team were defender Chip Rutland and midfielder Corey Cross.

Fayette County was well-represented in the state playoffs and county players proved to be dominant in the region as well. In fact only one player from outside of the three county high schools in region 4-AAAAA was named to the all region team; Mundy’s Mill’s forward Marcus Potts.
