Marine boot camp sermon series starts at Christ the King

An unusual sermon series will begin this Sunday, June 6, at Christ the King Charismatic Episcopal Church in Sharpsburg.

June 6 is the 60th anniversary of the Normandy invasion during World War II and Father David Epps, pastor at Christ the King and a Vietnam era veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, will begin a series of sermons on the topic, “Lessons in Life Learned in Marine Corps Boot Camp.” The sermon series will continue throughout the summer months.

Since Epps received his recruit training at the infamous Parris Island, S.C. marine training facility, his bishop asked him to address a clergy meeting about lessons he had learned in the Marines which would be applicable to the ministry.

“After I shared these lessons with the ministers,” Epps said, “I began to realize that many of the lessons I learned that would carry me through my life were formed at boot camp. So, I thought this would make an entertaining, yet relevant, series. All of us are thinking about the troops and the situation in the Middle East, so this is also a timely series.”

Epps will preach the series at both the 8 and 10 a.m. services, beginning June 6.

Christ the King is at 4881 Ga. Hwy. 34, between Peachtree City and Newnan.
