Wingo Wins Award

Fayette County Tax Commissioner George Wingo has been named Tax Commissioner of the Year by the Georgia Association of Taxing Officials.

The award is given to the tax commissioner who has contributed the most to the benefit of the association and to his or her constituency.

In January, Wingo became chairman of the organization’s legislative committee, with many issues facing the state legislature regarding property taxes.

Wingo, with the legislative committee and lobbyists for the organization, achieved a “highly successful” year with the legislature, officials said. Some of the legislation was designed to protect taxpayers and other legislation was enacted to facilitate the process of billing and collecting taxes.

The Georgia Association of Taxing Officials also presented the award “for work on behalf of taxpayers and the organization which results in better government for every citizen of the state of Georgia.”
