Work party set for Line CreekSouthern Conservation Trust is hosting a guided trail walk and work party at Line Creek Nature Area June 5 to celebrate the 12th annual National Trails Day, a signature trail awareness program of the American Hiking Society. This years theme: Trails and Health: A Natural Connection certainly describes a big part of the appeal of Fayette Countys parks, nature areas, and cart paths said Abby Jordan, SCTs Executive Director. And Line Creek is a great place to hike, enjoy the creeks cool rocky shoals and have a picnic overlooking the fishing pond. Southern Conservation Trust is a community land trust and environmental education organization based in Peachtree City that owns and manages over 600 acres of conservation property, including the city-owned Line Creek and Flat Creek Nature Areas. Saturdays activities will include a guided nature walk/litter pick-up starting at 1 p.m. and then clearing and marking a new trail that will provide an easier alternative to reach Line Creek and the granite outcroppings. Volunteer workers should bring loppers and work gloves and wear long pants and sturdy shoes (not sandals!). Commemorative t-shirts will be given away to the six volunteers who work the most hours. Hiking and nature information will be available. Several local vendors and organizations have been invited to participate. Registration is encouraged by June 3 but everyone is encouraged to drop by. Call 770-486-7774 or email info@sctlandtrust.org to pre-register or for more information. Directions to Line Creek Nature Area: From the intersection of Ga. Highway 54 and Ga. Highway 74 in Peachtree City, travel west on Hwy. 54 past the WalMart shopping center. Turn south/left on MacDuff Pkwy into the Days Inn parking lot.
