Glenn enlists military leaders’ support

With a gentle breeze bowing and an enthusiastic crowd applauding, Dylan Glenn stood on the steps of the old Fayette County Courthouse Wednesday morning and outlined his plan for making America stronger.

Glenn was backed by several high-ranking former military leaders, including former Secretary of the Army Bo Callaway and retired Major General Jack Wheeler. Callaway and Wheeler are part of Glenn’s newly-formed Veterans Advisory Committee.

Other members of the committee include Dr. Leo Mackay (former Deputy Secretary of Veterans Affairs), General William Livsey, Brigadier General Phillip Browning, Brigadier General Peter Madsen, Brigadier General Bernard Fontaine, Lt. Colonel Buck Hilliard, Major Dexter Brewer and Ken Mills.

“It’s truly a humbling experience,” Glenn said as he addressed members of the committee.

Glenn said the committee will help him deal with national security issues when he gets to Washington.

Gleen is running for the 8th Congressional District seat against state Rep. Lynn Westmoreland and state Sen. Mike Crotts in July’s Republican primary.

He pledged to always listen to his military advisors and said spending for veterans programs has increased dramatically under President George Bush.

“Veterans shouldn’t have to want for benefits,” he said.

Callaway, who has known Glenn for years, said it’s crucial to keep the military strong.

“We must make sure they have the equipment and support they need,” he said.

Glenn closed the press conference by saying he would always be available to his constituents after he’s elected.
