Girls this summer have the opportunity to participate in activities that will carry them back to days of old--writing in calligraphy, making bonnets, "taking tea," and learning the "Language of the Fan" at a unique day camp in downtown Fayetteville. This exciting camp is called Victorian Adventures Day Camp and will be held at Southern Oaks, a restored turn-of-the-century house on Jeff Davis Drive. It is available to girls ages 8Ð12. One week for teenagers only will be offered as well.

There will be several themes this summer—Victorian camp, which depicts the 1800s, and Colonial camp, in which girls will learn about the early American settlers of the 1700s. The teen camp, called “Ladies Through Time,” will present 3 time-periods—the Victorian, Colonial, and Edwardian Eras. At each camp session, campers experience a glimpse of what it was like to live back in time-- dressing in hoop skirts and making their own hats each day, learning about the daily lives of ladies of that era, including fashions, needlework, and customs of the period. One of the highlights of each camp day is to participate in old-fashioned dancing.

The campers present a program and “tea” for their families on Friday evening of each camp week where they present some of what they’ve learned during the week, including several dances that they've mastered. Victorian Adventures Camp is held in one-week sessions, from 9am to 3pm each day. A Registration Day will be held on Saturday, May 29, from 9 Ð 2. Campers may register then or any time before or after by calling Michele Cox, camp director, at 770-460-0890 or check the website: www.VictorianAdventures.com.
