SRHS celebrates cancer commission approvalSouthern Regional Health Systems Oncology Services was granted approval by The Commission on Cancer of the American College of Surgeons. This is great news for our oncology team, said Dr. Jorge Spinolo, physician chairperson of Southern Regionals oncology program. Receiving care American College of Surgeons-approved cancer program means that patients will have comprehensive, quality care close to home. The Commission on Cancers Approvals Program was established in 1932. The Approvals team reviews cancer programs to make sure they conform to ACoS standards. According to the commission, receiving care at Southern Regional ensures that patients will have access to: Comprehensive care with a range of state-of-the-art services and equipment. A multi-specialty, team approach to coordinate the best treatment options available. Cancer clinical trials, education and support. Dr. Spinolo says the program also benefits the oncology team in delivering quality care, including access to national benchmark reports, participation in the National Cancer Data Base, a nationwide oncology outcomes database for more than 1,400 hospitals. Southern Regional Health System offers comprehensive health resources, including: Southern Regional Medical Center, a 406-bed, full-service hospital in Riverdale, featuring a state-of-the-art outpatient surgery center; The Womens Life Center; a Diabetes Resource Center and one of the busiest emergency departments in the state. Southern Regional also provides mental health, home health care, substance abuse treatment and surgery efforts through RiverWoods, Southern Regional Psychiatric Center; Southern Regional Homecare; and the Surgery Center at Mount Zion, in Morrow. |
