Even with war on terror, secrecy, snooping excessive

Re: “Let’s remember military is there for all of us.”

Excellent article. Keep up the good work.

My son is in Afghanistan on a UN base surrounded by many landmines. He lives in a tent city and works a 12-hour shift five days a week. Compared to what a lot of the military people are going through, he is spoiled. But that base is considered by the UN and the enemy to be an extremely important base. He is still in danger.

He didn’t want to go there, but he did. His government said he was needed there, so he went. He might get hurt, he might not. How will this affect his future? One should look at him as he is in that future time, not as he was in 2004.

This obsession our society has right now of checking on every little detail of a person’s life is hogwash. It’s also a bit scary. One can only hope that all of these reality shows will eventually tire our society of secrets. Secret overload, snoop overload.

Yeah, yeah, I know: it’s wishful thinking.
