Fayette Bus Driver Advances to State CompetitionFayettes first place School Bus Road-e-o winner Diane Vaughan willrepresent the county at the state competition next month. Vaughan and second place county winner Vivian Powell competed in the district road-e-o on May 17 at the Henry County Department of Transportation. Vaughan placed fourth, earning the opportunity to compete at the state level June 16-17 at the North Fulton Department of Transportation. The purpose of the road-e-o is to help drivers improve their basic driving skills by navigating a school bus through an obstacle coursethat emulates different road situations and conditions. This will mark the fourth time Vaughan has participated in the state competition. Vaughan says she prepares for competition by regularly practicing the obstacle course that includes such maneuvers as Offset Alley where competitors drive through two offset lanes without touching barriers and Diminishing Clearance that evaluates a drivers ability to keep the bus in a straight line with diminishing clearances. |
