Prowler wins top state awardsThe Prowler, the Starrs Mill High School newspaper, enjoyed unprecedented success at the recent annual Georgia Scholastic Press Association Awards at the University of Georgias Henry W. Grady School of Journalism. The Prowler received a superior rating (first place) for general excellence in newspapers in its class (AAAAA). It marked the first time individual writers received top writing awards. The Prowler swept the news categories. Taylor Debartola won first place for in-depth news for this mold story. Meg Williamson and Chelsea Mansulich won first place for news for their story on teenage drug use. Andrew Head and Ian Davisson won first place for opposing viewpoints column for their Head to Head series. Meg Williamson also won second place for critical reviews. The following are some of the judges comments: This is one of the best editorial pages in this class. Kudos for having two house editorials. Congratulations to the news staff for tackling tough issues in an interesting and professional way. This is an extremely strong paper. |
