Fox bites South Fayette man

By JOHN MUNFORD

A South Fayette man was bitten by a fox Sunday evening, spurring officials to remind cat and dog owners to make sure their pets have current rabies shots.

The man, who was bitten while going to his shed on Old Greenville Road, was able to capture the fox, which has been sent off for rabies testing, said Bill Newman of the Fayette County Animal Shelter.

Newman advised it is also important for residents to keep their pets in an enclosed area while outside when possible.

Newman was quick to point out that not every fox has rabies. But some foxes are now out and about with their cubs foraging for food, and precaution is warranted, Newman said.

He also encouraged Fayette residents to report any contact with unusually aggressive foxes, especially those that chase animals or advance upon humans. To file such a report, contact the Fayette County Animal Shelter at 770-487-6450.
