Baseball Classic to benefit Children's Healthcare of Atlanta

A Palmetto resident is trying to make a difference in many folks' lives.

Children's Healthcare of Atlanta is calling all baseball fans and enthusiasts to come out for the second annual Children's Spring Baseball Classic at Turner Field May 11.

Proceeds from the event will benefit the ChildrenŐs brain and spinal cord tumor program, which treats more than 70 brain and spinal cord tumor patients a year. The Baseball Classic pits longtime rivals, the University of Georgia Bulldogs and the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets against each other in a benefit game.

Local high school powerhouses, The Marist School and St. Pius X Catholic High School will warm up the crowd at 4 p.m. Palmetto resident, Michelle Drummond has worked for ChildrenŐs Healthcare of Atlanta for more than six years. A year and a half ago, she transferred to the ChildrenŐs brain and spinal cord tumor program, where she works directly with patients and their families to ensure that their clinical, and sometimes emotional, needs are met. In addition to her workday, Drummond works tirelessly to encourage her neighbors and the Palmetto community to attend the event in support of ChildrenŐs Healthcare.

The meaning of the event hits especially close to home when she works with any of the many patients from Fayette County and surrounding areas who benefit from the services provided by ChildrenŐs Healthcare. Proceeds from this exciting baseball doubleheader will help purchase an inta-operative MRI machine for ChildrenŐs Healthcare of Atlanta, one of the countryŐs leading nonprofit pediatric healthcare systems.

This machine enhances the view of a childŐs brain during surgery, which ultimately benefits both doctor and patient. Tickets to the ChildrenŐs Spring Baseball Classic, presented by the Brain Tumor Foundation for Children, are $10 for general admission and are available for purchase through Ticketmaster or the game.
