Another delay for TDK?

There may be another delay in getting work started on the Peachtree City side of the TDK Boulevard extension, which will ultimately provide a crucial link between Coweta County and Peachtree City’s industrial park.

The road’s path has been redesigned so it arcs around land north of Falcon Field. The new design insures the road will stay out of the airport’s runway safety area, which was deemed an issue by the Federal Aviation Administration.

But building the road on that path will knock out two of the golf holes on the Planterra Ridge golf course, which creates the timing issue, Falcon Field manager John Crosby told members of Peachtree City’s Airport Authority Wednesday night.

To compensate the golf course, Peachtree City will acquire vacant land north of the two holes needed for the TDK project, Crosby said. The two holes would then be relocated to the new property, he added.

But golf club officials don’t want to give up the two current golf holes until the two new holes are ready to use, Crosby said. Rough estimates are that it could take more than a year to clear the land and get the holes in playing condition, Crosby said.

There is some good news with this new wrinkle, however. The purchase of the land will be funded by a grant from the FAA, Crosby said.

Officials are still trying to determine whether underground utilities in the area must be relocated, but other than that the engineering work for the project is completed, Crosby noted.

But in neighboring Coweta County, work has already begun.

County Commission Chairman Vernon “Mutt” Hunter said workers starting clearing the site Monday after he talked with state transportation officials.

“We’re moving forward. We don’t anticipate any delays on this side of the creek,” he said.

Coweta’s portion of the road is estimated between $600,000 and $700,000, and Hunter said the money has already been obtained.
