Battle of the Bands nearsThe Peachtree City Youth Council is currently planning its Second Annual Battle of the Bands. Last year over five hundred youth and adults attended the concert inaugurating the Youth Councils work in Peachtree City. The concert is an enormous chance for local bands to increase their fan base and a fun, in-town event for teens. Atlanta radio stations also got in on the act as radio personality Axel of 99X acted as the master of ceremonies; the Youth Council has invited Axel back to continue this new tradition. Tentatively, this years event will be held at the Frederick Brown Jr., Amphitheater July 10 from 8 -11 p.m. A prize of $250 will be awarded to the winner, with other prizes for the second and third place to be announced. The event is still in its planning stages; currently, the youth council hopes that at least six bands will participate this year. Each band will be allowed a total of 30 minutes set-up and play-time to convince the judges that they deserve first prize. Accepted bands will be asked to pay a registration fee of $50 per group. Because the concert is open to all ages, lyrics will first be reviewed for content. The bands will be evaluated by special guest judges in the music and radio industry. Interested bands are asked to leave a message with Tara Lorello, special events coordinator. Dial (770) 631-2588 then press 1580 and leave a voice mail. Or email youth@peachtree-city.org. |
