Obituaries

Frank B. Bryan

Frank B. Bryan, 89, Peachtree City, died April 29, 2004. Memorial services were at St. Andrew’s In-The-Pines Episcopal Church. Survivors include his wife, Helen Barkman Bryan; daughters, Wallace McGrath, Atlanta, Atlanta, and Susan Bryan, Decatur; and granddaughters, Mary Dwan, Clarkston, and Isabel Dwan, Tucker. Carmichael-Hemperley Funeral Home, Peachtree City, was in charge.

Daniel F. McMahon

Daniel F. McMahon, 83, formerly of New York and Peachtree City, died May 6, 2004. He was born June 12, 1920 to Daniel Francis and Madeline Dederick McMahon. He was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia Maguire McMahon, whom he married Oct. 31, 1943. They moved to Peachtree City in 1985 and she died in 1995. He graduated from Manhattan College in 1942, and served as an officer in the United States Army Air Forces in World War II. After his discharge, he was graduated from Fordham Law School in 1948. He worked as a former federal prosecutor, and Yonkers police commissioner, Westchester County sheriff and a state Supreme Court Justice in White Plains, N.Y. A memorial mass was held at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Peachtree City. Survivors include sons, Daniel McMahon, Stamford, Conn, Brian McMahon, Stillwater, Minn., Gerard McMahon, Westfield, N. J., and Rory McMahon, Coconut Creek, Fla.; daughters, Nuala King, Peachtree City, and Deirdre Joyce, Savannah, Ga.; a sister, Joan Flatt, Dallas; 19 grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. Memorial donations may be made to the St. Vincent Ministry to Priests, 970 Pine Hill Road, Palm Harbor, FL 34683. Fred H. McGrath & Son Funeral Home, Bronx, N. Y., was in charge.

Reba W. Thompson

Reba W. Thompson,77, Peachtree City, died May 8, 2004. She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Essie Watkins, brothers, Buck Watkins and Doug Watkins, and a sister, Nita Watkins. She was founder of the Flat Creek Ladies Golf Association in 1968 and was honored with the naming of the FCLGA Reba Thompson Handicap Tournament. She was a founding member of the Fayette County Little League, and the Fayette County Board of Realtors in 1969. She was a charter member of the First Presbyterian Church of Peachtree City and an avid Georgia Bulldog fan. She served on the Fayette County Sesquicentennial Committee in 1971. Services were at the First Presbyterian Church, Peachtree City. Survivors include children, Claudia and Carl Pitts, Cathy and Billy Kirk, David Thompson, Billy and Anne Thompson, and Dicky and Laura Thompson; sisters, Virginia and Joe Moore, Sybil and Billy Highfield, and Dot and Shelton Kent; sisters-in-law, Ruth Howell and Nellie Watkins; grandchildren, Anne Shaffman, Michelle and Geoff Borree, Tracy Pitts Beatty, Johnny and Jana Pitts, Mike Bernhardt, Brandon Thompson, Katie and John Clements; step-grandchildren, Noel Charbonneau, Ryan and Christine Allgood, and Sarah Allgood; great-grandsons, Jack, Jadon, and Will; and step-great-granddaughter, Lauren. Carl J. Mowell & Son Funeral Home, Peachtree City, was in charge.

Virginia Elizabeth Turner

Virginia Elizabeth Turner, 80, Zebulon, died May 8, 2004. She was born March 17, 1924 in Fayette County, daughter of Ernest Paul and Stella McElwaney Jones. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Edward Turner. Services were at the Carl J. Mowell chapel with interment at Ramah Baptist Church Cemetery, Palmetto. The Rev. Dr. Steve Stewart officiated. Survivors include sons, Eddie and Janice Turner, Zebulon, and Charles Turner, Zebulon; a daughter, Colleen and Ronald Piper, Fayetteville; grandchildren, Gwen Turner, Denise McKenzie, Carmen Cowart, Allen Piper, April Turner, LynnTurner, and Trish Clark; and great-grandchildren, Michael Clark, Kyle Clark, and Dalton Clark, Laurel Turner, Christopher Turner, Brad Cowart, Michael Cowart, and Nicolas Cowart, and Derek McKenzie. Carl J. Mowell & Son Funeral Home, Fayetteville, was in charge.

Randy Lee Davis

Randy Lee Davis, 50, Fayetteville, died May 8, 2004. He was born May 7,1954 in Fulton County. Services were at the Carl J. Mowell chapel with the Rev. Scott Harp officiating. Interment was at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens, College Park. Survivors include his mother, Nobie Davis, Fayetteville; brothers, Ted Davis, Newnan, and Barry Davis, McDonough; and a sister, Elaine Holloway, Jonesboro. Carl J. Gloria Frances Cook

Gloria Frances Cook, 81, Fayetteville, died May 9, 2004. She was born July 24, 1922 in Charlotte, Mecklenburg County, N.C. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Wilton Cook Sr. Survivors include sons, Tom Cook, Fayetteville, and Charles W. Cook Jr., Birmingham; a daughter,, Melanie Lackey, Atlanta; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a brother, John Furr, Charlotte, N. C.; and sisters, Dorothy McGraw, Charlotte, N. C., and Betty Sue Williams, Siler City, N. C. Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 1925 Century Blvd., NE, Suite 10, Atlanta, GA 30348. Carl J. Lawrence Edwin Hopkins

Lawrence Edwin Hopkins, 74, Fayetteville, died May 11, 2004. He was born Feb. 8, 1930 in Calhoun County, W. Va. Services were at the Carl J. Mowell chapel with the Rev. Gary Elliott officiating. Interment was at Westminster Memorial Gardens, Peachtree City. Survivors include his wife, Wilma Jean Hudson Hopkins; sons, Mark Albert, Houston, Texas, and Kenneth Edwin and Pam Hopkins, Morgantown, Pa.; daughters, Debra and Gary Elliott, Lilburn, Ga., and LaDonna and Jon O’Morrow, Brooks, Ga.; and 17 grandchildren. Robert S. Moore

Robert S. Moore, 76, Fayetteville, died May 11, 2004. He was born March 1, 1928. He was preceded in death by his wife, Martha Elizabeth Jones Moore. Graveside services were at the Georgia Memorial Park Cemetery, Marietta, Ga., with the Rev. Dennis Watson officiating. Survivors include a son, Bob and Elizabeth Moore, Fayetteville; a daughter, Christy and Billy Graham, Fayetteville; four grandsons; four great-grandchildren; brothers, Ronald Moore, and Joe Moore, both of Marietta, and Walter Moore, McDonough; and sisters, Betty Ergle, South Carolina; and Sue Lingerfelt, Douglasville, Ga.
