Magistrate seeks re-election

Fayette County Magistrate Bob Ruppenthal has announced he will run for re-election to his post 3 seat.

Ruppenthal was elected to the position in 2000. He will be opposed this year by Sheila Huddleston.

Ruppenthal, who has practiced law in Fayetteville for over 10 years, received his law degree from Georgia State University, his master’s degree from Amber University and his bachelor’s degree from Auburn University.

He is currently a member of the Blackrock Foundation, a Christian benevolence organization serving Fayette County, and a scholar of the Coverdell Leadership Institute.

Ruppenthal served as president of the Fayette County Bar Association in 1998 after serving the previous year as secretary/treasurer.

The magistrate court handles civil cases with amount in question up to $15,000 and landlord/tenant disputes. The court also sets most criminal bonds and conducts preliminary hearings.

Ruppenthal said his goal is to continue serving Fayette County “with respect and dignity while providing excellence in my judicial duties through capable and fair administration of all magistrate court proceedings.”

Ruppenthal and his wife, the former LeGay Coleman of Fayetteville, live in Peachtree City with their two daughters. They are also members of Fayetteville First Baptist Church where Ruppenthal serves as parlimentarian.
