A Woolsey woman was seriously injured Tuesday afternoon when her tractor rolled into a pond, trapping her under water for several minutes.

Linda Draper, 54, of 374 Hampton Road, Woolsey, remained in critical condition at Atlanta Medical Center Thursday afternoon.

Crews used special rescue equipment to free Draper from underneath the tractor, said Deputy Chief Allen McCullough of the Fayette County Department of Fire and Emergency Services. Draper was then resuscitated by medics and taken to Fayette Community Hospital, McCullough said.

Draper was later airlifted to Atlanta Medical Center for further treatment, McCullough added.

Draper was on top of the tractor when the accident occurred, McCullough said. When the tractor rolled into the pond, it rolled on top of Draper, he added.

Several bystanders noticed the tractor in the pond and called 911, which was crucial to helping Draper, McCullough said.

The department has responded to several incidents similar to this over the past few years, but most have involved lawn mowers and not larger tractors as was the case with Draper, McCullough said.
