Summer school available next monthThe Coweta County Summer High School will be held at the Central Educational Center June 2-24. Classes will run from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with lunch from noon to 12:30 p.m. The total seat time will be 136 hours, which will meet SACS requirements for awarding unit credit. Summer school teachers will be current Coweta County School System employees. Courses in the areas of English, mathematics, science, social studies and drivers education are planned. The actual courses offered will be determined by student course requests. Registration will be held at each base high school from May 12-28. Tuition is $325 per unit of credit will be charged for Coweta County residents. Half-unit courses will cost $175, except for driver's education, which will cost $200. Students who are not residents of Coweta County will be required to pay $500 per unit; $225 per half-unit and $250 for drivers education. Course offerings are dependent upon student enrollment and the availability of teachers. Classes will be filled on a first-come, first-serve basis. Transportation will not be provided. School lunches will be provided at no extra charge. The summer high school program is designed to be self-supporting. For further information call 770-254-2810 ext 208 or 209. The Coweta County Middle School Summer School will be held at Arnall Middle School, 700 Lora Smith Rd., Newnan, June 3-30 (20 days of instruction). Classes will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. for students (teachers will be on duty from 8 a.m. to noon). Summer school teachers will be current Coweta County School System employees. Courses in the areas of math and language arts will be the primary classes offered. Science and social studies will be considered if enough students need these courses. Registration will be held at each base middle school from May 12-28. Tuition for Coweta County residents is $100. Students who are not residents of Coweta County will be required to pay $150 (due by June 3). A $25 fee will be charged for all returned checks. Students that were retained because they failed 2 of 5 courses are eligible to re-take a course in summer school (connections classes are averaged as one class). They will be eligible for placement into the next grade by satisfactorily completing the summer school course. Transportation will not be provided. Lunch will not be provided Summer Focus classes are June 7-23 (retest date June 24; make-up day June 25). The classes are offered only for third-grade students who need the retest of the CRCT reading exam for placement in fourth grade. When CRCT scores are returned in late May, parents will receive a letter notifying them if their child is eligible for the Summer Focus class. Classes will be held from 8:30-11:30 a.m. for students (teachers will be on duty from 8 a.m. to noon). The classes will be offered at five sites, including Arbor Springs, Atkinson, Newnan Crossing, Eastside and Ruth Hill. There is no tuition. |
