Coweta residents turned out this week to see what the future holds for their transportation needs.

The Atlanta Regional Commission unveiled its 2030 Regional Transportation Plan that shows how the group wants to try to unsnarl traffic.

If the commission’s plans are approved, Coweta stands to gain more than 25 new transportation projects.

One of the costliest projects is the Amlajack Boulevard Extension and a new proposed interchange at Interstate 85 that is estimated to cost $6.45 million.

The county also stands to gain mumerous intersection improvement projects. The plan has nearly $1.8 million alloted for improvements at Witcher and Glover Road at Ga. Highway 16, Hammick Road at Ga. Highway 154, Vaughn Road at Hwy.154, Tanglewood Road at U.S. Highway 29 and Hal Jones and Greentop Road at Hwy. 29.

The draft plan also includes more than $7 million for noise walls along Interstate 85.

One of the more interesting projects that is already programmed into the DOT’s budget is $342,000 for a multi-use path in Senoia. The path will link Senoia’s ballfields complex on Howard Road to the city’s park on Seavy Street.

The ARC is currently taking comments on the plan and reviewing funding options.
