State Democratic leader honored in FayetteThe Fayette Democratic Women recently toasted the election of Bobby Kahn as chairman of the Democratic Party of Georgia. Kahn was honored in Fayette County with at a celebration that drew more than 70 Democrats from Fayette County, across the state of Georgia, and even from Washington, D.C. Several elected officials attended the event including, State Representative Virgil Fludd, State Representative Sharon Beasley-Teague, State Senator Valencia Seay, State Representative Pat Dooley, State Representative John Noel, State Representative Billy Mitchell, and Judge Tommy Hankinson. Chris Miller, National Field Director for 21st Century Democrats in Washington, D.C., was also in attendance. Seay, Dooley, and Dr. Ron Schoeffler, president of the Georgia Association of Democratic County Chairs, spoke about why they are proud to be Georgia Democrats and why they are glad to have Kahn as chairman. Chairman Kahn was elected in February by the 250-member Georgia Democratic Committee. He achieved an overwhelming victory over other contenders for the job.Ê Kahn replaced State Representative Calvin Smyre as chairman. Smyre resigned in January to spend more time on legislative issues. Before becoming chairman, Kahn served as chief of staff for Governor Roy Barnes and also served on the campaign of former Atlanta Mayor Andrew Young.Ê He served as Executive Director of the Democratic Party of Georgia from 1985-1989.ÊIn 1988, he served as president of Atlanta 88, the host committee for the Democratic National Convention. Kahn has spent his entire professional life working to elect Democrats. Kahn currently is employed as chief counsel for LUC Media, an advertising placement firm that he founded.
