Rotary sponsores essay contestsThe Rotary Club of Peachtree City recently announced the winners of the 2004 Laws of Life Essay Contest from J.C. Booth Middle School and Rising Starr Middle School. TheÊwinnersÊwere honored at a luncheon, where the first-placeÊhonorees read their winning essays. The Laws of Life Contest challenges students to write about their core values which will guide them thourghout their lives.ÊThis contest is special because the program emphasizes reflection and writing, and encourages students to think about the people and experiences that have helped to shape their values. It also challenges students to take a stand for their beliefs. Rising Starr winners included sixth-graders Kim Smith (first), Jennifer Crotty (second) and Chelsea Barker (third); seventh-graders Stephanie Grant (first), Saher Valiani (second) and Brandon Lindsey; and eighth-graders Chelsea Rohades (tied for first), Mary Wozniak (tied for first) and Kristen Crotty (third). Booth winners included sixth-graders Lindsay Hoofnagle (first), Martine van Voorthuysen (second) and Avery Miller (third); seventh-graders Blythe Thacker (first), Ryan Routh (second) and Lyndsey Jones (third); and eighth-graders Nick Trevena (first), Libba Beaucham (second) and Jason Hyatt (third). The Laws of Life EssayÊContest is conducted locally in communities around the world.ÊThe Peachtree CityÊRotary Club began sponsoring this contest in Fayette County three years ago, and Rotary District 6900, of which this Club is a member, was so impressed with this project, that they asked the Peachtree City Club to help other Clubs establish this contest throughout Georgia. |
