Ride home leads to rape in Tyrone, police say

A Tyrone teen has been arrested for raping a local girl Saturday night while he was giving her a ride home from Fayetteville, according to police reports.

Matthew Martin Pittman, 18, of 145 Lynnwood Ave. was arrested shortly after the incident, said Tyrone Police Chief Johnny Hay. Pittman is charged with one felony count of rape, Hay said.

According to the incident report, the victim had called Pittman and asked him to pick her up from a home in Fayetteville where she had been babysitting. The victim told police she asked Pittman why he was taking so many “back roads” to get to her home and he initially told her it was a shortcut.

Later, Pittman stopped his 1986 Chevy Silverado on Trickum Creek Road and raped the girl after he asked to have sex with her several times and she declined, the police report said. The victim said she tried to fight off Pittman but was unable to do so, according to the report.
