Sandy Creek girls perform well at region meet, capture several individual titlesSandy Creeks girls track team won three individual region titles at the Region 4-AAAA meet held recently at Woodward Academy. Brandice Ware won the 100-meter dash with a time of 13.02, while Mellany Stanislaus won the triple jump with a jump of 3806. Ware and Stanislaus were also members of the region champion 4x100-meter relay team with Brenay Grimble and Iman Person, which finished with a time of 50.28. Other top finishers for Sandy Creek were: 200-meter dash - Mary Fields, third, 27.02; Ware, sixth, 27.56. 400-meter dash - Fields, fourth, 1:03.65; Stanislaus, seventh, 1:05.82. 1,600-meter run - Christine Dunphy, 10th, 6:09.04. 3,200-meter run - Dunphy, 10th, 13:38. 100-meter hurdles - Jeanne Lyons, fourth, 16.85; Shamora Merritt, eighth, 23.05. 300-meter hurdles - Lyons, fifth, 51.26. 4x400-meter relay (Fields, Person, Stanislaus and Jillan Campbell) - third, 4:15.89. High jump - Jade Bynum, seventh, 46. Pole vault - Karnesh Slaughter, seventh, 76. Long jump - Stanislaus, third, 166.75; Kristi Davis, sixth, 14. Triple jump - Davis, 11th, 305. Shot put - Vanessa Simon, seventh, 3110; Campbell, eighth, 319.5. Discus - Simon, 10th, 77; Daisa Quinn, 19th, 60. Whitewater High School also had members of their girls track team compete. Mallory Woodard placed eighth in the 100-meter dash, 14.02; sixth, 100-meter hurdles, 18.48 and 11th, long jump, 139.5. Claire Huff placed 11th in the 3,200, 13:54.98, while Brently Collins placed 13th in the long jump, 133.75. Juliann Long took 16th in the shot put, 239.5 and 12th in the discus, 6910. Carrie Burks finished 20th in the shot put, 167.5 and 17th in the discus, 5811. The girls competing in the state championships will meet in Albany starting tomorrow afternoon. The boys meet will take place in Jefferson starting next Thursday. |
