Delamar running for Congress

Silvia Delamar has announced that she has filed her paperwork with the Federal Elections Commission in Washington, D.C. making her campaign for Congress official.

“I am running for Congress to bring new ideas to the table on behalf of school children, unemployed workers and underinsured families across Georgia’s Eighth Congressional District,” said Delamar.

Delamar is mounting her first campaign for public office, but is confident that she will be able to raise the necessary funds and garner a broad-based coalition of support on Election Day.

“I don’t have the baggage that other politicians have when they run for office. I’m a mother and wife who is deeply concerned about the direction this country is headed and I plan to offer a fresh face in Washington who can address the issues facing everyday families,” said Delamar.

For the past five years, Silvia Delamar has worked as an executive team leader for a national retailer, where she oversees financial matters and strategic planning for guest services.

“My background in business will be a tremendous asset in this campaign,” she said. “I work everyday to balance budgets and resources. That’s something that Congress has lost sight of over the last couple of years. The borrow-and-spend mentality in Washington has put priorities like smaller class sizes, affordable health care and new job growth in peril.”

Delamar was born in Vidalia, where her parents founded a local church and her father was the pastor. She attended Emory University with a major in political science. She has also studied business administration at the University of Phoenix and DeVry University.

She and her husband Richard Delamar are the proud parents of son Jordan, age 9, and daughter Mia, age 5. The family resides in Rockdale County.

Delamar is running for the seat being vacated by Mac Collins, who is running for U.S. Senate.

Delamar recently visited the Fayette Democratic Committee. She presented her views on the issues.
