Peachtree City announces July 4 plansIndependence Day festivities will be held Saturday, July 3, this year to avoid conflict with Sunday morning church services. All activities, including the fireworks, will be held on Saturday. If the fireworks should be rained out, that event will be rescheduled for Sunday, July 4. The parade route, which begins on Peachtree Parkway South near the Village Green neighborhood, is the same route used in 2003. The parade will travel north on the parkway and end in the parking lot at the McIntosh Trail Complex. Registration for the parade will begin Tuesday, June 1. You may register by phone (770-631-2542) or in person at the Recreation Administration Building in the McIntosh Recreation Complex. The number of entries will be limited, so early registration is encouraged. Participants will be assigned a parade number that will be mailed, along with all the parade rules, to the contact person in advance. To register, you must know the approximated length of the vehicle to be used or the number of walkers in the group. Each family, organization, political candidate, business or other group will be allowed one entry. An entry is one car, one truck, or a car pulling a float, or two golf carts traveling in tandem. All entries must be decorated. Trucks and floats carrying people are required to have side rails at least 36 inches high surrounding the area of riders and have handholds for all standing participants. Parade organizers strongly urge that large vehicles or floats have spotters (people on both sides of the vehicles) to keep the crowd at a safe distance from the vehicles.
