Police have identified the Tyrone couple who died in a shooting at a Fayetteville dentist’s office Tuesday afternoon.
Flossie Cooper Tyson, 54, died after she was shot multiple times by her estranged husband, Sammy L. Tyson, 65, who then shot himself and also later died, police said.

Mrs. Tyson was a patient at Family Dental Care at 270 Ga. Highway 314 when her husband entered the building and shot her several times before turning the gun on himself.

Medics rushed her to Fayette Community Hospital where she was pronounced dead. Mr. Tyson died at Atlanta Medical Center where he was taken by ambulance.

Officials said the couple was in the process of getting a divorce.
The shooting occurred just before 2 p.m., said Lt. Beverly Trainor of the Fayetteville Police Department.

Mr. Tyson entered the office and opened fire with a handgun on the woman before shooting himself, Trainor said.
He had asked to use the restroom, searched the waiting area for his wife and then fired multiple shots into her head, according to one report. He then turned the gun onto himself.

The office had 11 employees present at the time of the shooting, Trainor confirmed. Other than the Tysons, no one else was injured, she added.

Family Dental Care is located on Ga. Highway 314 across from Lowe’s Home Improvement Warehouse. John K. Kendrick and Jeffery A. Kendrick operate the dental practice.

Dave Seiler of Fayetteville drove up after the shooting expecting to take his daughter Brandy to the dentist for a 3 o’clock appointment. Instead, he found the office’s white house surrounded in crime scene tape, with visibly upset staffers outside as police sorted out the details of the crime.

Instead of showing up early for the appointment, the Seilers they decided to shop a bit at the Big Lots store. He was glad they did.
“I pulled up and I see this and I said, ‘This is not good,’” Dave Seiler said.

“Holy cow,” Brandy Seiler said.
