Man safe after cycle crash

A Riverdale man escaped serious injuries in a motorcycle accident last weekend in downtown Fayetteville.

Billy Joe Overton, 53, was driving his 2003 Harley Davidson motorcycle on Jeff Davis Drive South near the Cornerstone Chevron when he was struck by a 2001 Chevy Prizm driven by Jennifer Kellie Hicks, 16, of Fayetteville, according to the accident report filed by the Fayetteville Police Department.

Overton, who was wearing his helmet when the accident occurred, was conscious and alert while he was treated by medical personnel before being taken to Fayette Community Hospital. The helmet was damaged and the face mask was split in two.

Hicks was cited for failure to yield.
