Civil War author to sign book

Local author Carolyn Cary will sign her new book “William Thomas Overby, Proud Partisan Ranger” at the Fayette County Library in Fayetteville Saturday, May 8 from 2-4 p.m.

The book is entitled for a Confederate soldier from Coweta County who was hung by Union forces in the Civil War.

The event is being sponsored by the Frankie Lyle Chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy.

Cary, a long-time Fayetteville resident who has been named Fayette County’s official historian, spent six years researching the book including several trips to the National Archives in Washington, D.C.

Copies of the hardcover book, which are $21, will also be available at The Fayette Citizen at 310 North Glynn St. in Fayetteville. Included are eight pages of color photos and a index encompassing 700 names cited in the book.
