Sandy Creek has good showing at quad meet

Sandy Creek performs well at quad meet

Sandy Creek’s boys and girls track team took on Starr’s Mill, Alexander and Woodward Aacademy at Woodward last Wednesday. The Patriots and Lady Patriots had a number of strong finishes as they prepared for the upcoming region and state meets.

In the girl’s 100-meter dash, Brandice Ware finished first with a time of 13.46, while natice Grimble took third (14.17), Megan Sibert placed fourth (14.06) and Cierra Mital placed fifth (14.59). Ware also took first in the 200 (27.43), while Mary Fields placed second (28.09). Christine Dunphy took second in the 3,200 (14:16.20), while Tangela Smith placed third in the 100-meter hurdles (19.09) and Shamora Merritt placed fourth (19.34). Smith also took fifth place in the 300-meter hurdles (57.75).

The Lady Patriots 4x100-meter relay team placed second (54.62) and their 4x400-meter relay team placed first (4:20.43). Jade Bynum placed fourth in the high jump, 4’10, Kanesh Slaughter placed fourth in the pole vault (6’6) and Kristi Davis placed fourth in the long jump (14’9). In the triple jump, Mellan Stanislaus placed first (37’8) and Davis placed fourth (32’). Vanessa Simon placed fourth in the shot put (30’06), while Jillian Campbell took fifth (29’10). Simon also placed fourth in the discus (65’9) and was followed by Malingo Bayndu in fifth (55’11).

For the boys, Will Judson took first in the 100 (10.86) and was followed by Jeremy Long (fourth, 11.69) and Michael McBride (fifth, 11.75). Judson also took first in the 200 (22.69), while Long placed fourth (24.02). Matt Auers took second in the 800 (2:07.15) and fourth in the 1,600 (4:51.57). In the 110-meter hurdles, Josh White placed first (15.75) and Aaron Carruthers placed second (15.85). White also took first in the 300-meter hurdles (42.81).

Sandy Creek’s 4x100-relay team took first (44.60) and the 4x400 team placed third (3:40.08). Carruthers, Ryan Brewer and Davian Quinn all tied for third in the high jump, 5’4, while Danny Giglio took first in the pole vault (13’). McBride finished first in the long jump (21’01) and Brewer placed fifth in the triple jump (36’03.50). Larry beard placed second in the shot put (43’07) and fifth in the discus (114’05).

The Sandy Creek Lady Patriots will compete in the Region 4-AAAA track meet at Woodward Academy this Friday and Saturday with action beginning at 2 p.m.
