Fresh home cooking

Plenty to choose from at Cindy’s Southern Cafe

These days, going out to eat often means visiting some national chain restaurant, waiting in line to get seated, eating packaged or pre-cooked food, and overpaying for the entire experience.

But one restaurant in Peachtree City is hoping to change your expectations of eating out by serving fresh food in a warm and cozy atmosphere.

Cindy’s Southern Cafe opened in December and owner Cindy Adcock has spent the past few months proving that you can find food in Fayette County just like grandma used to make.

“I have always wanted a restaurant with a rotating menu where I could serve real veggies and meats like my grandmother always cooked,” Adcock explained. Some entrees offered include the best selling fried chicken, meatloaf, baked pork chops, catfish, chicken pot pie, “and the list goes on,” Adcock added.

“Our menu is always different. If I feel like cabbage rolls or shepards pie then we have it that day. We even take requests when we can. We do have our standard rotating menu also, and we have copies that you can take home with you.”

All the plates at Cindy’s Southern Cafe come with a choice of entree, two sides and bread choice, all for only $7.99. Adcock’s personal favorite dish is the baked pork chops. “They are so tender and juicy, and the gravy we bake them in is just excellent,” she said.

Two of her customers’ favorite side items include squash casserole and broccoli casserole, Adcock added. “Some of our most popular dishes are also the fried green tomato appetizer and our mouth watering homemade bread pudding with vanilla sauce.”

Desserts always end a great meal, and at Cindy’s Southern Cafe there are plenty to choose from. Peach or apple cobbler a la mode, chocolate cake, cheese cake, cinnamon pound cake, banana pudding and bread pudding with vanilla sauce are some of the options. Adcock also bakes other items like Red Velvet Cake, Mississippi Mud Pies and Coconut Cake.

Customers have been responding to the restaurant’s cozy atmosphere and the homestyle cooking. Adcock tells of one such couple, Mr. and Mrs. Lamy, who come in to Cindy’s Southern Cafe three times a week.

“They absolutely love our homestyle recipes,” Adcock said. “They were recently remodeling their kitchen and came in every day for weeks. It’s customers like the Lamys that make us feel good about what we are doing.”

Fresh vegetables and sides are hard to find except at Cindy’s Southern Cafe. Mashed potatoes with delicious gravy, yams, beans, cucumber salad, honey-glazed carrots and more are always made fresh daily. If you want black eyed peas, collard greens, turnip greens, fried okra or truly southern cream-style corn with homemade corn muffins or biscuits, Cindy’s is a restaurant you’ll want to try.

Cindy’s Southern Cafe offers on-site buffets for special gatherings of groups from 25-40 people. The restaurant’s banquet room can accommodate up to 40 people, and off-site catering is also available, starting at $8.50 per person.

Adcock said the restaurant gives her the opportunity to do what she loves: Cooking. “I love to try new recipes and I am not afraid to try anything,” she said. “I have four children who love to try my recipes. They are my best critics. I also love to make people happy, so I enjoy cooking for others in hopes that they will love what I make.”

So far, her customers are loving it.
