Tuesday night a winner for local soccer teamsBy MICHAEL BOYLAN McIntoshs boys and girls, both ranked second in AAAAA, hosted Lovett Tuesday evening and got wins. The Lady Chiefs didnt play a great first half, according to coach Marcia Clark, but got on track to get the 2-0 victory. Brittany Schneider and Kelsey Quinn notched the goals for McIntosh, while Annie Nacke, Arlan Whittle and Kristen McKillop all played well defensively. The boys from McIntosh won 4-0 and got three of their goals from Patrick Murray, with Jared Johnson contributing the other goal. Coach Bunky Colvin credited with goalkeeper Glen Fox with playing a great game, making save after save, and also cited Kevin Golez with giving the team a lift defenisvely. Colvin also mentioned good play from Mark Pendergrass, Jason Howard, Patrick Houseman, Daniel Hershey and Nader Jarun. The boys will host McEachern tonight at 8 p.m., while the Lady Chiefs will play at Pope tomorrow at 6 p.m. and will follow it with a game at Lassiter on Monday at 7:30 p.m. and a game at home against Westminster on Wednesday at 5 p.m. Sandy Creeks girls nabbed another region win Tuesday by defeating Douglas County 4-2. The Lady Patriots got two goals apiece from Katie Wilson and Ally Treat. Sandy Creeks current overall record is 8-3-1 while they are 4-1 in the region. The Lady Patriots will host Chapel Hill at 5:30 this afternoon. Starrs Mills boys got a 2-0 win over Lassiter on Wednesday night and will host Lovejoy at 6 p.m. on Friday night. Trey Maughan scored the two goals for the Panthers, while Brian Smith and C.J. Cooper had the assists. Goalkeeper Matt Troop recorded his eighth shutout of the season and Brian Parsons, Chris Pecca and Justin Davis led the defensive effort. The Lady Panthers will play Lovejoys girls directly after the boys game on tonight. Starrs Mills boys will host Fayette County Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. in a match that will decide the region championship. |
