Assessment notices going out

The Fulton County Board of Assessors will send out 2004 assessment notices next Friday to residential and commercial property owners who have a change in value.

Property owners who have no change in value will receive a letter.

If property owners do not receive a notice or a letter by May 1, they should call 404-730-6440 to determine if the County has their correct mailing address.

On Monday, April 26, all 2004 property values will be posted on the Tax Assessors’ web site at www.fultonassessor.orgÊ

The county has 235,000 residential and 30,000 commercial properties. Most of the notices will have an increase in value.

The Board of Assessors establishes the value of all residential and commercial properties in the County. In Georgia, property taxes are based on 40 percent of the property’s fair market value, less all applicable exemptions.

The county’s 13 taxing authorities --- the 10 municipalities, the Atlanta and Fulton County School Boards, and Fulton County Government --- determine property taxes annually for homeowners and businesses. The millage rates, which the taxing authorities establish, multiplied by the property’s value (subtracting exemptions) determine property taxes.

Members of the Board of Assessors are available to speak to interested business and community groups on Fulton assessment issues. They maybe reached at 404-730-6434.
