Safety seminar is Saturday

Recent, well publicized, child abductions and violence across the United States often strikes fear in the hearts of parents. Although most parents attempt to discuss these occurrences and the dangers of strangers with their children, they often unintentionally send mixed messages and fail to properly instruct their child as to the correct way to recognize a dangerous situation and then respond accordingly.

To this end, Peachtree City Karate for Kids, in association with SafetyNet Kids and the National Amber Alert System, is offering a free, one hour interactive seminar, uniquely suited for kids 6 years and older, teaching kids how to avoid “Stranger Danger”.

Children will learn to:

•Identify a “stranger” and how to respond appropriately to different scenarios

•Use simple techniques for self defense and escape dangerous situations

• Recognize and handle unwanted touches

“I take pride in teaching my students, as young as 3 years old, how to recognize a dangerous situation and how to safely respond,” said PTC Karate for Kids Owner Eddrick High. “These are simple techniques that kids can remember, practice with their parents, and execute effectively.”

Two one hour sessions will be offered April 17 at 10 a.m. and noon. Sessions are limited to 30 participants to ensure proper instructor-to-student ratios. Additional sessions may be added based on community interest. Classes will be taught by American Taekwondo Association Black Belt instructors Eddrick High - 4th Degree, Deondrey Gardner - 3rd Degree, and Justin Sims - 1st Degree.

Peachtree Karate studio is located at 453 Ga. Highway 74 South, directly across from the Peachtree City police station, just north of Crosstown Drive, in Peachtree City.

“Child abductions and violence can occur in any community and it is absolutely essential that we teach our children how to identify danger and how to react,” said Steve Brown, Mayor, Peachtree City. “Peachtree City Karate for Kids has my profound appreciation for their efforts to insure our children’s safety,” said Brown.

“As a member of the Peachtree City business community, I feel safety clinics like this are a logical extension of our mission and something we can do to give back to our community,” said High. “Together we can stop the growing epidemic of child crime and keep our kids safe wherever they are. We can help Parents enable their kids with the right knowledge and the right actions that will protect them from almost any situation. Give us an hour and we’ll give your kids the power.”
