Swing dance approaches

The 1940’s will come alive May 8 at the “Second Annual Dixie Wing CAF WWII Swing Dinner Dance.”

Listen to the big band sound of Glenn Miller and Benny Goodman while enjoying a buffet dinner, door prizes and “best costume” contests. Adding to the WWII atmosphere will be vintage aircraft, vehicles and re-enactors dressed in period clothing. The dinner and dance will be held at the Historical Airpower Facility, at Falcon Field in Peachtree City.

Even if you can’t do the Jitterbug or the Lindy, come out for an evening of nostalgia, great music, and good food. The event starts at 6 p.m. (or 1800 hours for those of you on active duty).

2004 marks the 60th anniversary of D-Day, the turning point of World War II and an event that shaped the course of our nation. Proceeds from the event to benefit “Education Through Living History,” a World War II history program presented by Dixie Wing volunteers at the Historic Airpower Facility.

“Education Through Living History” is available to area schools and youth groups free of charge. Recently, the Dixie Wing presented World War II Day at Falcon Field. The event brought in over 3,000 visitors and raised over 1,000 pounds of canned food for the Fayette Smaritans Food Bank. Based on the success of this year’s event, the Dixie Wing Commemorative Air Force has decided to present a World War II Day next year as well.
