Senator Miller signing tomorrow

Drop by Barnes and Noble in Fayetteville on your lunch hour tomorrow and meet Senator Zell Miller. He will be signing his book, “A National Party No More: The Conscience of a Conservative Democrat” starting at 12:30.

His controversial critique of the Democratic party takes a hard line on such issues as abortion, welfare, gun control and the environment. Senator Miller began his political career as mayor of Young Harris, Georgia in 1959.

He was elected to the Georgia Senate the following year and won the first of four consecutive terms as Georgia’s lieutenant governor. In 1990 he became governor and served for two terms. He taught at Emory University, the University of Georgia and Young Harris College after leaving the governor’s office in 1999.

Among his other accomplishments is the creation of the HOPE Scholarship Program which has been called “the most far-reaching program in the nation” by the L.A. Times. He has written several books including “Corps Values: Everything You Need To Know I Learned in the Marines,” recounting his experiences as a Marine sergeant. His new book is full of new observations about his beloved party and what it need to again become a force to be reaconed with.
