Same-sex unions: Where will rights demands end?

Mr. Thompson, in your most recent article in The Citizen you quoted Rep. John Lewis as saying, “Rights are for everyone, regardless of race or sexual orientation.” The problem with liberals like yourself and John Lewis begins with the fact that you do not believe in any moral fiber whatsoever.

You go through life each day believing as long as you do not intentionally harm others in a way you believe is harmful, you have the right to do anything you want to do.

I have a couple of questions for you, sir. Do you believe it is someone’s right to have sex with children? What about having sexual relations with animals? Right now your argument is the rights of gays are being trampled on because they are not afforded the same rights of marriage as heterosexuals.

If, God forbid, the day arrives that gays can be married with all of the rights of heterosexual marriages, then the next banner to be waved among the liberal establishment types will be, “What about the rights of pedophiles?” Then a new banner will arise and so on and so on.

That is what frightens those of us who really do understand what compromise has done and will do to societies who begin backward thinking. I prefer to live by the same moral code that has stood for centuries!

Because people live and breathe, Mr. Thompson, does not give them ANY right to believe that what actions they choose to take are always correct. Our culture, our very history is founded on moral principles that argue murder is wrong behavior, homosexuality is wrong behavior, sex between adults and children is wrong behavior, stealing is wrong behavior. I could go on and on here but I think (I hope) you get my meaning.

Last, in response to another quote you made “Opinion polls consistently show that 18-29-year-olds don’t understand why gays can’t get married and have the same rights heterosexuals enjoy.” I’d like to see the very polls you are quoting from and the areas from where they were taken. I could just as easily find a majority of the same age group from our own hometown who would beg to differ in your opinion and who take the stand just as the majority of Americans do that homosexual marriages are wrong and should never be allowed.

It is a known fact that polls are only as good as the pollsters who take them and the way they are taken are based on the demographics of the areas they are taken in.

If I took your poll for the age group you mentioned in San Francisco, I’d probably get your same results, but if I took them in Cumming, Ga., I think you’d be found a little short. Polls are only as good (and honest) as the pollsters who take them!

In closing, the sad state of our children’s affairs hinges on the fact that many of them are being raised today by the same culture from the ‘60s and ‘70s that believed drug use is OK, nudity in public is OK, living together outside of marriage is OK. Deep down inside, you know, as I do, that those beliefs are not right. My question to you, sir, is, When will you grow up?
