Former NFL star gets bond after juries deadlock twice on assault charge

The former NFL football player accused of putting a gun in his son’s mouth for getting bad grades at their south Fayette home is now out on bond.

Gregory Lenard Lloyd, 35, was granted a $100,000 bond Monday with conditions that he wear an electronic monitoring bracelet on his ankle, obey an 11 p.m. to 7 a.m. curfew and not leave the state, said Fayette County Assistant District Attorney Jamie Inagawa.

Lloyd, who played 10 years with the Pittsburgh Steelers, was tried twice for aggravated assault last month, but both times mistrials were declared after the two juries deadlocked when voting on guilt or innocence.

In the first trial, Lloyd testified and the jury voted 11-1 to convict. In the second trial, which also included the aggravated stalking charge against Lloyd, he declined to testify. That jury was deadlocked 8-4 in favor of acquittal on the aggravated assault charge and 7-5 for acquittal on the aggravated stalking charge.

The latter charge stemmed from an incident where Lloyd was accused of contacting his wife by cell phone in violation of the temporary protective order filed in conjunction with their divorce case.

Lloyd had been in jail since June on the aggravated stalking charge.
