Full night of racing in Senoia

Last Saturday’s racing at Senoia Speedway was an action-packed and crowd-pleasing affair.

Jason Turner held on to take the win in an exciting and crash-filled Larry’s New & Used Tires Modified Street Stock 50-lap special. Steven Barker started the event from the pole, joined by his teammate, Sammy Short, on the front row. When the green flag waved, Barker jumped out to an early lead, followed closely by Short, Turner and Keith Leslie.

On lap eight, as Short began to pressure Barker for the lead, Short’s machine experienced a mechanical failure as he charged down the front straight-away; resulting in a crash. Short was not injured in the incident, however, his machine was retired to the pits for the evening.

When racing resumed, Barker continued to show the way, followed closely by Turner, Leslie and Robby Gober. By lap 15, Turner had closed the distance on Barker and nosed by to take over the lead. Turner would continue to lead the remaining laps and take the checkered flag, followed by Barker and Gober.

In the Aaron’s Pro Challenge 25-lap feature, Terry Mathis led the event from flag-to-flag to take his third 2004 victory of the season. Mathis was followed by Rusty McLain and Britt McLain.

Tina Johnson started the Bandolero 15-lap feature from the pole and led the event from flag-to-flag to take the win.

In the Legend Cars Semi Pro 15 lap feature, Chris Cable started the event from the pole and led the event flag-to-flag to take the win. Cable was followed by Casey Tate, Aaron Brooks and John William Lee.

In the Legend Cars 25-lap feature, Doc Lee started the event from the pole joined by Jeff Haynie on the front row. When the green flag waved, Lee jumped out to an early lead, followed by Haynie, Bubba Harry and Jeremy Kalina. On lap 12, Haynie nosed by Lee for the lead, and began to pull away from the field. However, Kalina closed the distance on Haynie by lap 20 and took over the lead. Kalina would remain the race leader for the remaining five laps and take the win, followed by Harry, Haynie and Ron Johnson.

The Sportsman 25-lap feature was filled with exciting door-to-door racing. Johnny Todd started the event from the pole joined by Jody Cash on the front row. When the green flag waved, Todd jumped out front, closely pursued by Cash. By lap five, Cash had edged by Todd to take over the lead. With Todd challenging for the lead on the outside grove, the two driver's battled for the lead door-to-door until lap 12 when Todd nosed by Cash to take over the lead. Todd would maintain the lead the remaining laps and take the win, followed by: Norman Layton, Jody Cash and Andy Cash.
