Scout troop wins big prize

The winner of the “Best Overall” Prize at the Coweta County Boy Scout Spring Camporee was, surprisingly, the newest and the smallest of the 15 troops competing: Troop #43 in Grantville.

The Grantville troop has only been in existence for seven months and has only six members, only four of which were in the competition: Jeremy Adelsgruber, Mark Adelsgruber, John Tyler, and Javier Zavaleta. Most of the competitions involved the proper setting up of tents & campsites and the administration of first aid.

The key to the success of the Grantville troop is being attributed to the strong emphasis on weekend camping trips, held at least once a month, which, apparently, is about twice as often as most other troops.

The Grantville Boy Scout Troop is sponsored by the Grantville Better Home Town organization, which took the initiative in getting the troop established last year. The Scoutmasters are Josh & Zach Carey, who were very active in the Boy Scouts and who both attained the rank of Eagle Scout. The Carey brothers run the Southeastern Interiors Company, which has made a great contribution to Grantville by renovating many of its downtown buildings.

Grantville residents interested in getting their boys into Troop #43 can contact the Careys at 770-583-2888.
